How Can You Get Involved?
I Never Thought of Doing That!
For all you Lakesiders who are reading this right now, have you considered volunteering but haven’t found your “nitch”? Maybe you don’t want to commit to an ongoing event or charity but prefer a shorter commitment? Perhaps you’re looking for a volunteer effort that is “different” — something combining a good cause and a unique or artistic experience? Then why not consider volunteering, or hosting an artist, for Feria Maestros del Arte?
And for all you readers who don't live at Lakeside, we can use your help too. Reach on and if you are interested in how you can help, please use the contact information below.
Our volunteers and hosts donate their hearts and enthusiastic spirits toward helping the Feria continue its efforts to promote the “endangered” indigenous and folk art of Mexico. Already many Mexican art forms have completely disappeared because artists cannot sustain a livelihood on their art alone. More and more artists are abandoning their work to take jobs in cities or doing menial labor where they are assured of a guaranteed income.
Why give your time and energy to us rather than some other charity? What do we have to offer our volunteers?
An opportunity to learn something new.
Meet interesting, artistic, motivated, and energetic volunteers who feel strongly about getting involved in the plight of Mexican folk art.
A chance to give back something to your host country.
Here is a place to put your particular skills or talent to use without a huge time commitment - you choose your level of involvement — one day, one week, more — it’s up to you.
Broaden your perspective of Mexico and the unique art unlike any other in the world available here.
This is a “Lakeside” event — your community — you can help nurture this event into one the entire community is proud to support. Help us put it on the calendar of every collector or gallery owner who travels to Mexico to buy Mexican folk art.
There are virtually dozens of volunteer positions: working at the show itself selling tickets, stamping hands, helping with the charity raffle, or there are other jobs such as handing out flyers at the tianguis or other high-traffic areas, set up or take down, write press releases, or create a niche for yourself — something we haven’t thought of.
We also need help from computer-literate volunteers (here are tasks you can do at home) — research on the Internet, graphics design, newsletter, and more.
Whatever you choose to do, we all come together at the Feria with the artists to enjoy the fruits of our labor when attendees stream in to admire and purchase the bounty of art Mexico has to offer.
We are also looking for families/individuals willing to host artists during the three days they are in Chapala. This is a very special opportunity to become connected to part of Mexico’s history and has become a very popular volunteer effort. Many hosts join together in the evenings after the show and plan group get-togethers. Often artists return year after year to stay with the same host.
Whatever level of participation you choose; we guarantee you’ll get back more than you give. Ask any of our volunteers or hosts about the time they have spent getting to know other volunteers and best of all, the artists who are very special people, not just because of their creative abilities but because they are so giving and so very thankful for this opportunity to participate in an event geared toward promoting and selling their art (which may very well have been done in the their family for generations).
