Delfino Victor Sánchez was born in Ocumicho, a village at 9000 feet elevation in the mountains of Michoacán state. His father and six brothers and sisters all work as artisans in the classic barro (clay) tradition of his village creating fantasmagorical creatures, humans, devils and angels depicting all aspects of life with humor and gusto.

Delfino worked with his family as a young man learning to create works of art in the traditional Purepecha style of his village. After working for several years as a brick layer and later carrying supplies to campesinos working in the countryside, Delifno collected pine cones and pieces of wood he would find in the mountains.

He began carving masks and painting and decorating them with parts of the pine cone and seeds as well as with small pieces of mirror he would cut by hand. This evolved into the elaborate mirror frames and small pieces of furniture. His wife Candelaria assists him in the painting process of all his work.

Delfino uses many traditional Purepecha methods as his style evolves. He is currently working on more complex mirrors as well as on cabinets, lamps and chess sets. In February 2011, he had a very successful one-man show at Galart Gallery, Villa de la Selva in lxtapa.
