Alicia began working with clay at a very young age. The youngest daughter of Teodora Blanco Núñez, her mother taught Alicia the basics and imbued her with inspiration to know more about her culture and traditions — the folklore and customs of her pueblo (village).

She started making pieces at nine or 10, becoming an expert in making small figures at the age of 16 and larger pieces at 20. Now, she specializes in small pastillaje (raised clay applications) and engraved figures — women at the market, humans on burros, angels, mermaids and nativity scenes.

Alicia is teaching her craft to all five of her children to ensure that from generation to generation her art will not be lost. She feels a responsibility to the great cultural heritage that her mother passed on to her. Her specialty is creating art that reflects the customs and traditions of her people — a wedding, the Nahuales pronounced na'wal is a human being with the power to transform either spiritually or physically into an animal form) of legends that her grandmother told her about. She has won several first place awards in various judged art shows.
